Geostrophic Moisture across North America
If one takes the January 1979 surface plot of the ERAI EP (Evaporation minus Precipitation) coverage, this is a sample of the possible views. If I’m not mistaken, Rossby and Kelvin waves are suggested by the ridges and a major mid Atlantic depression of that month might be expressed by the graphic depression resulting from the inverse scaling I use. But I need to learn more and accordingly are following up on some resources of weather for that month and year. There appear to be many interesting papers on geostrophic flows from that period and so from a QG perspective, this is also complementary to numerous posts at this site.
For now I’ve produced another image for the next month, February 1979.
